Best Dog Names
Choosing a name for your dog is no easy task, just ask any other pet parent out there. After All, it’s not just as simple as picking a name you like, it should suit the personality of your furry friend (plus it needs to sound nice when you’re yelling it across the dog park!)
Dog names are a bunch more fun to pick than baby names, with baby names you have to pick carefully (and you definitely can’t call them Peanut Butter), at the same time it should be unique, the last thing you want is 100 puppers all responding to your calls when you’re out and about!
It’s also worth mentioning that a good dog name can increase responsiveness which is especially helpful during training! So without further ado, let’s get straight into the Best Dog Names...
How to choose the perfect dog name?
First and foremost, stay away from super long names! As you can probably imagine, dog’s have a hard time hearing names with lots of consonants and long vowels, so in this case, short is sweet.
Secondly, it should be a name you’ll have no problem shouting out loud at the dog park, while picking a funny name might be hilarious to begin with, if it’s just you at the dog park yelling “Gary” it looks a bit strange.
Lastly, make sure it fits your furry friends personality. Each dog breed varies massively (they’re all cute though) so you want to make sure it’s a name that reflects what your furbaby is actually like!
Anyways, enough chit chat, here is a HUGE list of names that you can take inspiration from (if you do end up finding your perfect dog name on our list, we want credit!)

How do I know if it feels right?
A lot of the time you’ll feel it straight away, but if you’re struggling to warm to the name you’ve chosen there is a simple but fun way to find out if it’s the one for you. We like to call it the “Dog Walk Test”. Simply try calling out your dog name as if you’re out and about on a dog walk, you’ll quickly find out whether you like it or not! For example, “Lexi, come back” or “Lexi, walkies time”. This will remove it from inside your imagination and bring it to reality.
Still struggling to decide?
We understand, consider yourself extremely lucky if you find a dog name you like first time, it often takes days, even weeks (hopefully not months) of mental back and forths before you finally pick the perfect one. Just remember, name inspiration can come from all sorts of places, not just our amazing blog posts. Stuff like your favourite food, movie characters, places you’ve visited, meaningful heritage names are all great sources of inspiration to start with.
If after all this, you’re still back where you started, don’t think about it too much. By focusing on the perfect name you’ll fry your brain and it’ll often come to you in a spontaneous moment of inspiration, so whatever you do, don’t stress it!
We hope this managed to help!
